Crew to Install Grass at Riverwalk Stadium
Field to be Laid Monday

MONTGOMERY - Montgomery's "field of dreams" will begin to take shape Monday at 8 a.m., when the Riverwalk Stadium grounds crew will lay the first rolls of sod on the playing surface, weather permitting.

The field installation will be a three-day process, beginning in the left field corner near the Whistle Stop Grille picnic area.

The sod will arrive by the truckload. After being cut Sunday, the sod will arrive in rolls 42 inches wide and 50 feet long. Covering the field's approximately 95,000 square feet will require more than 550 rolls.

Rob McKay, the Biscuits' Head Groundskeeper, will manage the installation. His experience includes golf course management and a year as a groundskeeper at Fenway Park in Boston.

"The green grass is kind of the focal point of a ballpark's beauty," McKay said. "This grass is going to be a pleasure to play on and a pleasure to look at."

"The moment the grass goes in is the moment that you stop looking at this place as a construction site and start looking at it as a place to play ball," added Biscuits General Manager of Operations Greg Rauch.

The sod is TifSport®, a highly resilient hybrid Bermuda grass developed specifically for use on athletic fields. The field will then be overseeded with CHAMPION® G.Q. (Golf Quality) rye grass, which grows well in autumn.
