Biscuits drop rubber game to Suns, 5-4
Montgomery loses first series since June

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Suns (23-32; 56-69) took the rubber game of a five-game series Saturday afternoon at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville from the Montgomery Biscuits (31-23; 65-59), edging the visiting team, 5-4.

The Suns dealt the Biscuits their first series loss from June and put them one game off of their pursuit of the first-place Mississippi Braves.

The Biscuits played from behind almost the entire contest, nearly overtaking the Suns in the pivotal sixth inning. In that frame, the Biscuits slammed reliever Kieran Mattison for four hits and three runs, including an RBI single by Josh Asanovich and a two-run hit by Rashad Eldridge. However, with the score tied 4-4, Travis Schlichting, who lost Thursday's game, entered with one out and two runners in scoring position to strike out two and preserve the tie. The Biscuits would not reach base again.

The game winner came against Biscuits reliever Eddie Morlan in the seventh inning, when designated hitter Kelley Gulledge single to bring in Ivan DeJesus, Jr. Morlan surrendered only the one run in two innings but suffered the loss.

Most of the Suns' damage came against starter Mike Prochaska, who allowed eight hits and four runs in five innings. The Biscuits managed only one run on four hits in five innings against Suns starter Cody White.

Schlichting threw a perfect seventh, while Scott Elbert and Jacobo Meque each chipped in perfect innings to close it out.

With Mississippi's 3-2 win over the Mobile BayBears, the Biscuits dropped to a game and a half behind the division leaders.

Montgomery take Monday off before beginning a five-game home series on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. against the Tennessee Smokies. Jason Cromer will pitch the series opener.
