Biscuits win slugfest, 16-10
Biscuits and Barons combine for 26 runs, 29 hits

MONTGOMERY – In an anticipated pitchers' duel, the Montgomery Biscuits and Birmingham Barons played the highest-scoring game in Biscuits history at Riverwalk Stadium Wednesday night, with the Biscuits emerging victorious, 16-10.

The teams combined for 29 hits and five home runs. Every Biscuits starter had at least one hit and one RBI, and eight of the nine knocked in at least one run.

Starters James Houser (1.26 ERA) and Justin Cassel (1.38) each entered among the league's leaders in ERA, but the torrent of offensive torrent was enough to change entire team earned run averages. Cassel's (4.1 IP, 9 ER) ERA shot up from 1.38 to 3.38. Houser's (4.1 IP, 6 ER) raised to 2.72. Reliever Fernando Hernandez saw his raise from 1.04 to 5.79. The Barons' entire team ERA moved from 3.09 to 3.48.

Houser gave up four crushed home runs in the first three innings -- a two-run shot in the first by David Cook, a solo bomb by Robert Hudson in the second and two solo homers by Thomas Collaro and Cole Armstrong in the third -- but the round trippers weren't enough to match the Biscuits' output.

Montgomery exploded for six runs in the first inning on six hits, all with two outs. They also scored four in the fifth and six more in the seventh.

It was Montgomery's first game scoring more than 15 runs since August of 2006.

Lefty Jason Cromer made his return to the Biscuits, tossing 2 2/3 innings of relief. Mike Wlodarczyk also made his relief debut, notching an encouraging 1-2-3 ninth inning. Jino Gonzalez got the win in relief, allowing a run in one inning of work.

Montgomery and Birmingham meet for the fourth game of the series Thursday night at 7:05. Montgomery righty Richard De Los Santos meets Birmingham righthander Carlos Torres.
