De Los Santos dominates in 6-1 win
Biscuits even series, 2-2

MONTGOMERY – The Montgomery Biscuits came within one out of shutting out the league's highest-scoring team at Riverwalk Stadium Saturday night, settling instead for a series-evening 6-1 win.

Richard De Los Santos (3-2) limited the Huntsville Stars to just three hits and a walk during his 7 1/3 innings, allowing no Stars past second base. Roger Deago finished it out, allowing only an unearned run in the ninth.

De Los Santos equaled the length of his April 22 start for the longest by the Biscuits this season. He struck out six, while retiring the first 11 hitters he faced. He added another stretch of eight in a row from the fifth until the seventh inning.

The decisive offensive blow for the Biscuits came in the second inning, as Pat Cottrell clubbed a three-run homer against Stars starter Brae Wright. Wright allowed an unearned run in the third when Ronnie Merrill scored on a double play following an error by first baseman Chris Errecart. In the fifth, the Biscuits made it 5-0 with a John Jaso double that plated Rashad Eldridge.

The Biscuits scored one final run against reliever E.J. Shanks in the eighth, with Sergio Pedroza doubling home Chris Nowak.

In the bottom of the ninth, Alcides Escobar strauck out on a Deago fastball but reached first base on a passed ball charged to Jaso. Mat Gamel followed with a single. Deago rebounded to strike out Matt LaPorta and Errecart but uncorked a wild pitch to move Escobar to third. He was within one strike of ending the ballgame with his fourth strikeout of the inning when Cole Gillespie hit a 60-foot infield single to break up the shutout.

The Biscuits and Stars play the rubber game of the series Sunday afternoon at 2:05, with Biscuits lefty Mike Wlodarczyk against Huntsville lefthander Sam Narron.
