Deja Vu?: Barons shut out Biscuits, 4-0
Omogrosso and two relievers collaborate on shutout

HOOVER – For the second consecutive game Monday night, the Birmingham Barons blanked the Montgomery Biscuits, 4-0, at Regions Park. The Barons dealt the Biscuits their third straight loss and captured the series, three games to two.

Only one Biscuit made it as far as third base. Birmingham starter Brian Omogrosso tossed six innings of shutout ball, allowing three hits and three walks, and three relievers pitched a shutout inning each.

Montgomery starter Mike Wlodarczyk had his best start of 2008, missing a quality start by just one out. He lasted 5 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and four runs (three earned), while walking four and striking out two.

The Barons got to Wlodarczyk in the second inning, after the lefty had retired the Barons' first five hitters. With two outs, Micah Schnurstein singled, Javier Castillo walked and Joe Persichina rolled an RBI double up the left field line. Another scored in the third when Ricardo Nanita and Tom Collaro doubled.

Two scored in Wlodarczyk's final inning, the first on an infield single by Robert Valido that served as the final blow for the left-handed starter. A second run scored on a throwing error by Montgomery catcher John Jaso.

Brock Till (1 1/3 innings) and Jino Gonzalez (1 inning) each pitched scoreless relief.

It was the first time the Biscuits have been shut out in back-to-back games since they lost 8-0 and 2-0 in Jacksonville on July 26-27, 2006. It was the first back-to-back shutouts by Birmingham since July 11-15, 2004.

The Biscuits get Tuesday off and begin a five-game series at Riverwalk Stadium against the Huntsville Stars on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
