Torres, Barons shut out Biscuits, 4-0
Biscuits limited to six hits

HOOVER – Birmingham Barons starter Carlos Torres and two relievers collaborated on a shutout victory over the Montgomery Biscuits at Regions Park Sunday afternoon.

For Montgomery, the 4-0 loss was the first time it had been held scoreless in the 2008 season. For Birmingham, it evened the five-game series at two wins apiece.

The Barons got all they needed in the first inning against Montgomery starter Richard De Los Santos. First baseman Micah Schnurstein smashed a three-run, two-out homer just inside the left field foul pole.

If the Biscuits had any wind in their sails, Schnurstein's homer took it out. Montgomery sent just 19 hitters to the plate against Torres, who permitted two hits and two walks. Relievers Clevelan Santeliz (one inning) and Derek Rodriguez (two innings) finished the game with more shutout ball.

The Barons scored one more against De Los Santos in the fourth, on a bases-loaded single by Jared Price.

The rubber game of the series is Monday evening at 7:05, with Montgomery lefty Mike Wlodarczyk against Birmingham right hander Brian Omogrosso.
