Barons defeat Biscuits, 4-2
Birmingham deals James Houser first loss
|
HOOVER – The Birmingham Barons took the middle game of a five-game series from the Montgomery Biscuits at Regions Park Saturday night, winning their first of the series and dealing Biscuits starter James Houser his first loss of the year with the 4-2 win.
Houser allowed a run in the fourth on a Thomas Collaro single, the second of three hits by the Barons designated hitter. Left fielder Johnny Raburn saved two more runs in the early innings by tossing out two runners at the plate. The run allowed by Houser snapped a streak of 19 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings.
The damage didn't end there, though. The Barons crossed home three more times in the sixth inning on a two-run double by Cole Armstrong and another single by Collaro.
The Biscuits scored two in the seventh inning against the Barons' bullpen, after they had failed against starter Justin Cassel. Cassel had tossed six innings of shuout ball, allowing just three hits. He walked three and struck out four.
Birmingham closer Jon Link pitched a scoreless ninth inning to notch his league-leading seventh save.
The Biscuits try to clinch the series Sunday afternoon with righty Richard De Los Santos on the mound at 2:05.
