Exploding 'pen: Biscuits lose, 5-4
Biscuits blow lead late to lose third straight to Suns
|
MONTGOMERY – Montgomery Biscuits starter James Houser thought he might have his first win Monday night at Riverwalk Stadium, throwing 6 2/3 of scoreless ball, allowing the Jacksonville Suns only two hits. But the Biscuits' bullpen squandered another lead, dropping the game, 5-4.
Houser was masterful in his start, striking out five and allowing only two runners into scoring position. He lowered his ERA to 0.42, but his record stayed at 0-0 after the Suns' eighth inning.
In that frame, James Tomlin singled with one out against reliever Brock Till. Ivan DeJesus followed with an RBI double and Lucas May gave the Suns the lead with a two-run homer over the left centerfield fence. The Suns added two more in the ninth against Roger Deago with a bases-loaded, two-run single by DeJesus.
Despite the demoralizing turn, the Biscuits came almost all the way back in the ninth. They loaded the bases against reliever Zach Hammes, and a two-run single by Pat Cottrell put the game-tying run at third and the game-winner at first. But Montgomery failed to get the big hit again, leaving the runners on base, and leaving their total left on base for the game at 14.
The Suns clinched the series. Game four of the set is Tuesday morning at 10:35, with Montgomery righty Richard De Los Santos against Jacksonville righthander Jesus Castillo.
