Mudcats outslug Biscuits, 11-8
Carolina scores four in sixth

Zebulon, N. Car. – The Montgomery Biscuits scored three runs in the fifth inning and five in the ninth at Five County Stadium Saturday night, but neither surge was enough to overcome the Carolina Mudcats, who hammered out 15 hits and defeated Montgomery, 11-8.

Ronnie Merrill's sixth inning home run broke up an 0-for-17 season-starting slumo, but it only served to cut the Mudcats' lead to 5-3. Carolina had scored two in the third inning against Montgomery starter Richard De Los Santos (1-1) and added one more in the fourth and two more in the fifth. De Los Santos allowed eight hits, five runs and three walks, suffering the loss.

Lee Mitchell's grand slam in the sixth against Roger Deago sealed the win for Carolina, despite a valiant nitnh-inning comeback which saw the Biscuits rap out five hits and send all of their hitters to the plate. The final game of the series is Sunday at 1 p.m. Central Time, with Montgomery lefty Mike Wlodarczyk against Carolina righty Brett Sinkbeil.
