Biscuits win 2-1 pitching duel in Carolina
Davis wins second; bullpen strong

Zebulon, N. Car. – Wade Davis pitched six strong innings at Five County Stadium Thursday night and the bullpen preserved a slim lead as the Montgomery Biscuits (3-4) defeated the Carolina Mudcats (4-3), 2-1.

Davis (2-0) allowed just one run and struck out six Mudcats, walking two. Roger Deago (1 2/3 innings, hold) and Jeff Kamrath (1 1/3 innings, save) held together the lead.

Both of the Biscuits' runs came against Carolina starter Ryan Tucker in the second inning, as Gaby Martinez and Rashad Eldridge doubled home runs with two outs. Tucker threw five innings and lost. Four members of the Mudcats' bullpen were perfect, as Chris Mobley, Luis Delgado, Willie Glen and Chris Doolittle all threw 1-2-3 innings of relief.

At the plate, the Biscuits managed seven hits, two by right fielder Sergio Pedroza.

The Mudcats scratched out five hits, four of which were infield singles. The game ended on a highlight-quality sliding catch in left field by Erold Andrus, and the Biscuits played their first error-free game of the season.

With losses by both Jacksonville (4-3) and Birmingham (4-4), thing tightened up early on in the South Division. The Biscuits are still in fourth place but trail first by only a game.

The middle game of their series in Carolina is Friday night at 6:15 Central Time, with Montgomery lefty James Houser pitted against Carolina lefty Aaron Thompson.
