Former Biscuit Price Named ASG Starter
Rays left-hander David Price American League's starting pitcher for Tuesday's All-Star Game

ANAHEIM, CA – Former Montgomery Biscuits pitcher David Price has been named the American League's starting pitcher for Tuesday's Mid-Summer Classic at Angels Stadium in Anaheim.

At 24, Price becomes the youngest starting pitcher in the All-Star Game in 22 years, when the National League sent 23-year-old Dwight Gooden to the hill. Voted by the players onto the roster, he was named the starter by Yankees manager and this year's manager for the A.L. squad, Joe Girardi. When asked, Girardi said the choice was an easy one; Price is 12-4 with a league-best 2.42 ERA.

"It's a huge honor to be here. It hasn't really set in yet," said Price after receiving the news Monday afternoon. "I am very, very happy."

The Rays 1st pick in the 2007 draft out of Vanderbilt, Price made nine starts in the Capital City in 2008, going 7-0 with a miniscule 1.89 ERA en route to Southern League All-Star honors. He would then make four starts for AAA Durham before getting the Big-League call-up to play a key role in the Rays' World Series run. Known not only for his world-class fastball, but also for his humbleness, Price was the 33rd former Biscuit to make it to The Show, and is currently one of 37 to have done so.

The All-Star Game will be broadcast on FOX at 7:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday, July 13th.

Price will be joined in the starting lineup by the Rays' Carl Crawford and another former Biscuit, Evan Longoria. The Rays enter the break in second-place in the A.L. East, two games behind the New York Yankees.
