Biscuits Close Home Schedule with Win
Wild card deficit stays at 2.0 with 6-3 victory
MONTGOMERY, AL – The Biscuits (71-63) finished their home schedule on Thursday night by downing the Huntsville Stars (65-70) 6-3 in front of 6,488 fans.
After the Stars had rallied with a pair of runs in the seventh to tie the game at three, the Biscuits used a patient approach in the bottom of the eighth to secure the victory. Matt Spring started off the inning with what would be the only base hit of the frame, with the Biscuits loading the bases and scoring twice on walks and once on an error to make it 6-3.
Matt Gorgen nailed things down in the ninth inning to tie a Biscuits record with 21 saves on the season.
The Stars had taken an early lead with an RBI single from Andy Machado in the second, but the Biscuits quickly responded. Matt Fields tied the game with a sacrifice fly, and Rashad Eldridge singled to center to give the Biscuits their first lead of the night at 2-1.
Henry Wrigley homered in the third to make it 3-1.
Biscuits starter Paul Phillips went five innings in a no-decision, striking out six while allowing just one run. Dane De La Rosa (9-2) got the win, tossing a scoreless 1.1.
Huntsville starter Amaury Rivas also took a no-decision, giving up three runs on five hits in six innings. Robert Hinton (4-4) suffered the loss when he allowed the three eighth inning tallies.
Wrigley and John Matulia led the Biscuits with two hits a piece.
RHP Jeremy Hall will throw for the Biscuits on Friday at 6:05 as they begin a four-game series against the Jacksonville Suns to conclude the regular season. The deficit in the wild card is still at 2.0 behind the Mobile BayBears.
