Biscuits Toss 3-Hitter, Lose 1-0
Third-inning wild pitch proves to be difference

MOBILE, AL – Biscuits (55-46) pitching limited the BayBears (55-45) to just three hits, but a third inning wild pitch from Jake McGee was all Mobile would need to beat the Biscuits 1-0 Thursday at Hank Aaron Stadium.

The three hits allowed ties the best effort from Biscuits pitching this season. McGee (2-7), who struck out six over six innings, has been the starter four of the eight times the Biscuits have been blanked this season.

The BayBears began that third inning with back-to-back singles from Cyle Hankerd and Jake Elmore. Ollie Linton used a sacrifice bunt to move them into scoring position, and McGee’s pitched sailed towards the third base side with Evan Frey at the plate.

The Biscuits had several chances in the game, but went 0-6 with runners in scoring position and stranded six on the night.

Mobile starter Wade Miley shut the Biscuits out over five innings, striking out five and allowing just two singles and a walk. Jeff Dietz, Bryan Woodall, and Dan Stange (4) combined for the scoreless relief.

Henry Wrigley led the Biscuits by going 2-4, including a one-out single in the ninth, but was left at first.

The Biscuits have now dropped seven of nine, their worst stretch of the season, and sit 2.5 games behind the BayBears. It’s the largest deficit they’ve faced since June 8th.

LHP Alex Torres will look to be the stopper against Mobile’s RHP Kyler Newby at 7:05 on Friday.
