Biscuits' Bats Silenced in Opener
Mobile's Henry tosses 8.1 to get win in 4-1 game
MONTGOMERY, AL – Mobile’s Bryan Henry tossed 8.1 innings of one-run baseball, and despite bringing the tying run to the plate in the ninth, the Biscuits (55-45) fell 4-1 to the BayBears (54-45) on Wednesday at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Drew Anderson had singled with one out in the ninth, and after Henry was removed from the game following hitting Leslie Anderson, Dan Stange (3) got Henry Wrigley to ground into a 1-6-3 double play on the first pitch to end the game.
Henry (4-2) struck out just three, but gave up only five hits and didn’t walk a batter to grab the win.
The BayBears took the night’s first lead on a two-out Ollie Linton single in the second. The Biscuits knotted things up on a John Matulia triple in the fifth, but the BayBears would quickly break the tie on a Collin Cowgill solo-homer in the bottom half. A pair of sacrifice flies for Mobile in the sixth added insurance and completed the scoring.
Biscuits starter Jeremy Hall (4-7) allowed a pair of runs on five hits and four walks over 4.2, and is now 0-5 over nine starts since his record-breaking 35-inning scoreless-streak.
Leslie Anderson paced the Biscuits offense with a 2-3 night.
With the loss, the Biscuits are now 1.5 games behind the BayBears in the South Division’s second-half standings.
LHP Jake McGee goes against Mobile LHP Wade Miley in the series’ second game on 7:05 Thursday.
