Complete-Game Shutout Downs Biscuits
Carolina's Fairel limits the Biscuits to four hits in 5-0 win
MONTGOMERY, AL – Carolina’s Matt Fairel hurled a complete-game, four-hit shutout, and the Biscuits (53-43) dropped their fourth straight ballgame by a final of 5-0 to the Mudcats (45-52) Friday at Riverwalk.
The complete game was Fairel’s (5-3) first of his two-year pro career. He struck out five and walked only one, winning his fourth straight.
The Mudcats broke through in a scoreless frame against Biscuits starter Jeremy Hall in the fifth. After he retired the first two batters, he hit Jose Castro with an 0-2 pitch then walked Kris Negron and Felix Perez to load the bases. Luis Terrero then followed with an infield single to make it 1-0.
They’d two more against Hall (45-52) in the sixth on a homer from Sean Henry, and single runs in the seventh and eighth against Josh Satow to complete the scoring.
Hall was sharp for most of the night, striking out a season-best eight over six innings.
Terrero was 5-5 for the Mudcats, doubling three times and driving home a pair.
Three of the four Biscuits hits were doubles, but no Biscuit recorded more than a single hit.
LHP Alex Torres will look to be the stopper for the Biscuits on Saturday at 7:05 against Carolina RHP Daryl Thompson.
