Eldridge's 10th-Inning Single Secures Sweep
Biscuits beat Mudcats 4-3 after hour-long delay

ZEBULON, NC – Rashad Eldridge dumped a soft liner over third to score Shawn O’Malley, and the Biscuits (51-39) beat the Carolina Mudcats (41-50) 4-3 in ten innings Friday at Five County Stadium to complete their first sweep of the season.

O’Malley had started the tenth with a walk against Jerry Gil (3-4), and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Emeel Salem. Eldridge’s game-winner came with one out.

Extras came after close to an hour-long rain delay that began with Montgomery in front 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth. On the first pitch after the resumption, Luis Terrero grounded out to score Kris Negron from third, tying things at 3-3 to answer a Chris De La Cruz go-ahead single in the seventh.

Cody Cipriano started the night’s scoring with a solo-shot to left center in the second. The Mudcats would answer quickly in the bottom half. After a Mike Costanzo leadoff walk, Devin Mesoraco and Dave Sappelt each singled to load the bases. Eric Eymann then lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Costanzo and tie things at 1-1.

Emeel Salem began the Biscuits’ fourth with a walk, and after stealing second and moving to third on a throwing error, scored on a Henry Wrigley single to put the Biscuits back in front, 2-1. The Mudcats answered quicly again, getting a one-out triple from Mesoraco and a game-tying double from Sappelt in the bottom of the inning.

De La Cruz led the Biscuits, going 4-4 for the second time this season.

Sergio Espinosa (1-2) picked up the win, tossing a scoreless 1.1. Paul Phillips (7) picked up the save. Both starters took no-decisions, with Jake McGee striking out eight over six innings, allowing two runs on five hits for the Biscuits, and Carolina’s Travis Webb going 6.1, allowing three runs on eight hits.

RHP Jeremy Hall will throw for the Biscuits on Saturday as the Biscuits begin a four-game series in Tennessee with the Smokies. First pitch is scheduled for 5:15 C
