Furious 9th Inning Rally Falls Short
Biscuits score three times in the ninth, fall 6-5 with tying run at third

CHATTANOOGA, TN – Entering the 9th inning trailing 6-2, the Biscuits opened the frame with four consecutive hits to draw within one. But with runners at the corners and one out, Chris De La Cruz bunted one in the air to the mound for out number one, and Javy Guerra threw behind the runner at third to end the game and down the Biscuits 6-5.

Chattanooga got on the board in the second inning against Biscuits starter Jake McGee on a single from Scott Van Slyke. McGee would leave the game one inning later with a leg injury.

Montgomery tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth, only to see Chattanooga score twice in the fifth and twice in the sixth to make it 5-2. A solo home run from Andrew Lambo in the seventh put the Lookouts up 6-2.

The ninth inning started with Nevin Ashley tripling off the wall in centerfield, and followed with doubles from Cody Strait, Drew Anderson, and after the Lookouts brought on their closer, Garcia, another double from Royster. That cut it to 6-5, and after a bunt from John Matulia, the tying run stood 90 feet away before De La Cruz’s muffed bunt attempt ended things on the double play.

Ashley, Strait, and Anderson all had two hits for Montgomery.

Justin Garcia (1-2) worked 2.2 innings and takes the loss, allowing two runs. Chattanooga starter Mario Alvarez (2-1) had a no-hitter with two outs in the fifth, and grabs the win with six innings of five hit, two-run baseball. Guerra’s save is his fourth.

LHP David Newmann throws for the Biscuits on Thursday night against Chattanooga LHP John Koronka at 6:15 CT.
