Biscuits Come From Behind to Beat Lookouts
Montgomery scores two on throwing error in 8th to win 7-5
CHATTANOOGA, TN – A throwing error allowed two Biscuits runs to score in the eighth inning, and the Biscuits came from behind to top the Chattanooga lookouts by a score of 7-5 on Tuesday Night.
Montgomery got out to an early lead, scoring twice in the second off of Lookouts starter Alberto Bastardo. A solo homer from Anthony Hatch in the third cut it to 2-1, but the Biscuits would add another on a Craig Albernaz single in the fourth to extend the lead to 3-1.
The first four Lookouts all knocked hits off of Rayner Oliveros in the fourth inning, with three runs crossing the plate and Chattanooga taking their first lead at 4-3, and adding a run to make it 5-3 one frame later.
The Biscuits chipped away one run on Albernaz’s second RBI single in the sixth, and tied it in the seventh when Emeel Salem and Chris De La Cruz scorched back-to-back doubles.
In the eighth inning, Cody Cipriano led off with a single that he ripped off the throwing arm of pitcher Matt Sartor. It was the only batter Sartor would face, having to leave the game because of the injury to his throwing arm. Harvey Garcia then came on and walked Cody Strait to put runners at first and second. Ryan Royster bunted back to the mound, and, attempting to nail the lead runner, Garcia fired to third but over the head of the third baseman Hatch and all the way to the left field wall, allowing Cipriano and Strait both to score and put the Biscuits up 7-5.
In the bottom of the ninth, Matt Gorgen gave up a leadoff single to Tommy Giles then walked the tying run, but followed by striking out two and getting Dee Gordon to pop out to right field to end the game.
De La Cruz recorded the second four-hit game of the year for the Biscuits, going 4-5 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Cipriano reached all four times in a 1-2 effort, and came around to score on all four occasions.
Darin Downs (2-0) pitched a wonderful 4.2 innings of relief, allowing an unearned run on two hits and five strikeouts to pick up the win. Sartor (0-2) takes the loss, and Gorgen gets save number three.
Wednesday’s game will begin at 10:15 am, with LHP Jake McGee opposing RHP Mario Alvarez.
