Biscuits Walk Off Again After Blowing Lead Again
Matulia hits game winner; many parallels from previous game

MONTGOMERY, AL – For the second night in a row, the Biscuits blew a ninth inning lead then came from behind to walk off with a victory, taking the series from the BayBears and moving into sole-possession of 1st in the South Division with a 3-2 win Monday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

The bottom of the ninth began with back-to-back singles from Greg Sexton and Matt Fields. Cody Cipriano then came to the plate and lined a single up the middle to score Drew Anderson, who was pinch running for Sexton. After Cody Strait popped out trying to bunt and Jose Lobaton flied out to left, Ryan Royster was hit on the arm by a pitch to load the bases with two outs.

Nine-hitter John Matulia then stepped to the plate and lined the first pitch he saw from Abe Woody (1-2) to the wall in right field to score Fields and give the Biscuits the win. It was the second consecutive blown save for Woody, who took the loss on Sunday as well.

The triumphant bottom-half came after a heart-breaking top-half. Darin Downs came in to try and nail down a 1-0 win, but Collin Cowgill scored Evan Frey, who had led off with a bunt single, then Konrad Schmidt hit a solo-home run to the opposite field to give the BayBears their first lead of the night at 2-1.

The late-inning action once again upstaged a brilliant starting pitching performance, as Jeremy Hall threw seven scoreless innings. With David Newmann’s gem on Sunday, it was the second game in a row that a Biscuits starter went seven scoreless only to take a no-decision. Extending back to Jake McGee’s five scoreless on Saturday, Montgomery starting pitchers have now tossed 19 consecutive innings without allowing a run.

Emeel Salem and Fields each had two hits to lead the Biscuits. Frey, Schmidt, and Taylor Harbin had two apiece for the BayBears.

Downs (1-0) takes the win after succumbing the lead.

The Biscuits will travel to Carolina to take on the Mudcats (4-1) beginning at 6:15 CT on Wednesday. LHP Alex Torres (0-0, 2.25) makes his second start for the Biscuits, while RHP Matt Klinker (1-0, 1.80) throws for Carolina.
