Davis named 2012 Southern League Broadcaster of the Year
Biscuits broadcaster wins award in his final season

The Southern League announced today that Joe Davis the “Voice of the Biscuits” has been selected as the Southern League Broadcaster of the Year.

"I consider myself really lucky to have gotten to know so many great people and talented broadcasters throughout the league in my three years in Montgomery. Knowing that this is voted on by them is what makes it special,” said Davis. "And honestly, this award is as much Aaron Vargas' as it is mine. 2012 was a blast for a lot of reasons, but having him in the booth was the main one."

Davis, 24, has served as the play-by-play voice of the Biscuits for the past three seasons. The Potterville, Michigan native was the youngest Double-A broadcaster in the country when he joined the Biscuits in 2010. Through his three years in Montgomery, Davis spent his off-seasons calling football and basketball for ESPN and Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS) while also assisting with play-by-play for Auburn, UAB and Troy athletics.

“Joe is a true professional,” said Biscuits General Manager Marla Terranova. “He has made the Biscuits’ broadcasts first class and enjoyable for all the fans who tune in.”

The end to the Biscuits season in 2012 also brought an end to Davis’ career in Montgomery. ESPN has recently signed Davis to a full-time contract to call college football, basketball and baseball. He can be watched weekly on ESPN-U calling football games every Thursday and Saturday.

Vargas, Davis’ broadcast partner this past season, will move into the number one role as the “Voice of the Biscuits” in 2013. “Serving as a number two under a broadcaster like Joe has been more valuable to me than any other lead play-by-play job,” said Vargas. “I’m very fortunate to have been able to learn from Joe, and I could not be more excited to work for an organization like the Biscuits.”

Southern League Broadcaster of the Year is voted on by broadcasters and general managers.
