Kang Named Southern League Hitter of the Week
2nd-year Biscuit with 4 home runs in 6 games this week, now leading the league
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Montgomery Biscuits designated-hitter Kyeong Kang has been named the Southern League's Hitter of the Week for games running April 30th - May 6th.
The South Korea native raised his average 65 points during the week to .279, and cranked four home runs in six games, including homering in three-straight games during the Tennessee series last week. He connected on his fourth homer of the week last night at Chattanooga, estimated to have flown nearly 500 feet.
He now leads the Southern League with eight home runs, after clubbing a career-high 11 for the Biscuits last year.
At one point during the Tennessee series, Kang reached base in 10-straight plate appearances. While the Southern League doesn't keep track of such streaks, the longest in Major League history was 16-straight from Ted Williams in 1957.
Kang becomes the first Biscuit to take home the honor in 2012, and the 15th in team-history.
J.C. Sulbaran of Pensacola was named the league's Pitcher of the Week.
The Biscuits will continue their 10-game roadtrip when they play game two against the Lookouts at 6:15 tonight in Chattanooga. They return home for five with Jacksonville beginning Friday night at 7:05.
