Buschmann Named Southern League Pitcher of the Week
28-year-old struck out 12 Friday, 3rd-most in Biscuits history

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Montgomery Biscuits right-handed pitcher Matt Buschmann has been named the Southern League's Pitcher of the Week for games running from May 7th - 13th.

After firing six shutout innings last Sunday, the former Nationals farmhand took the mound in the series-opener Friday against the Jacksonville Suns and took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. He struck out 12 over 6.2 innings, which ranks as the third-most K's in a single-game in Biscuits history.

The eight-year minor league veteran spent the first seven seasons of his career in the San Diego Padres system before signing with the Rays on April 15th. After beginning his time with the Biscuits with two relief appearances, he moved into the rotation and has a sub-4 ERA since doing so.

This marks the second-straight week the Biscuits have had a player honored, with Kyeong Kang winning Hitter of the Week last week. It's the 17th time in franchise history the Biscuits have had a Pitcher of the Week, and the first since Chris Archer took home the honor last August.

The Biscuits will continue a home series with the Suns tonight at 7:05. LHP Kyle Lobstein will go for the Biscuits against LHP Graham Taylor.
