Biscuits Sweep Rays Monthly Awards
Jennings and Hellickson Get Nod for April

MONTGOMERY, AL – The Montgomery Biscuits, Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, have swept the Rays organization awards for April, the first month of the season. RHP Jeremy Hellickson was named Rays' minor league pitcher of the month, while CF Desmond Jennings was honored as minor league player of the month.

Hellickson went 2-1 in five April starts, compiling an ERA of 1.93. He turned in a 15-inning scoreless streak to start his season, and finished the month with 28 total innings. The righty allowed just 18 hits and six earned runs, while walking eight and striking out 33. The 22-year old is currently on the disabled list after leaving his first start in May with a mild supraspinatus sprain in his throwing (right) shoulder. Hellickson is currently ranked the #8 prospect in the Rays chain by Baseball America.

Jennings started the season on a roll, and just kept hitting. He was third in the Southern League in batting average (.349), while pacing the loop with 30 hits. He started each of the Biscuits 21 April games in the leadoff spot in the order. He also led the league with four triples during the month and finished the month with three home runs and 16 RBIs. The 22-year old is currently rated as the #5 prospect in the Rays organization by Baseball America.
