Offense Erupts; Biscuits Control First-Place
The Biscuits score seven runs in the third to down the Stars 10-3
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Biscuits (72-62/36-30) erupted for seven runs in the third inning en route to a 10-3 win over the Huntsville Stars (64-72/29-37), giving the Biscuits sole possession of first-place, Thursday night at Riverwalk.
The Biscuits entered the third inning trailing 2-1. Kyeong Kang walked to lead off the inning. Mark Thomas followed with a two-run shot to left field to give the Biscuits a lead. Montgomery went on to collect three more hits in the inning along with two errors from the Stars to post a seven run frame and lead 8-2. Mikie Mahtook, Omar Luna, Michael Sheridan, and Kang all finished with an RBI each in the third inning.
Merrill Kelly (8-3) was solid for the Biscuits, allowing three runs through six innings for the win. Neil Schenk fired two shutout-innings while striking out five. Shane Dyer pitched a scoreless ninth.
Hunter Morris had a two-run double in the first inning to give the Stars the lead. Huntsville did not score again until Morris hit a solo-home run in the fifth inning to make it a 9-3 game. The Biscuits added a run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 10-3.
Game two in the series will be Friday night at 7:05. LHP Kyle Lobstein will get the ball for the Biscuits while the Stars will send RHP Ariel Pena to the mound.
