Biscuits Drop Third-Straight in Back-and-Forth Battle

Jacksonville scored three in the eighth inning for a 9-6 win over the Biscuits

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- After exploding for eight hits and six runs in the first two innings, the Biscuits (70-60/34-28) dropped their third-consecutive game in a 9-6 loss to the Jacksonville Suns (66-66/32-30), dropping the Biscuits’ first-place lead down to one game, Saturday night at Riverwalk.

After struggling offensively in game one of the series, the Biscuits had an offensive outburst in the first two innings but could only muster two hits and no runs past the second inning. The Biscuits have now dropped eight consecutive games against the Suns.

The finishing blow for the Suns came in the eighth inning. With two outs and runners on second and third, the nine-hitter Alfredo Lopez bounced a single up the middle to score two runs and break a 6-6 tie. Lopez finished the game 3-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored.

The Biscuits jumped out to a 6-2 lead through the first two innings. Derek Dietrich and Ryan Garko both had RBIs in the first inning while Mikie Mahtook had a two-run double in the second. The Suns bounced right back with a four run third inning off Shane Dyer to tie the game at six.

Grant Dayton (2-0) earned the win for the Suns while A.J. Ramos (20) got Mahtook to fly out to left with two runners on in the ninth inning for his 20th save of the season.

The middle game of the series will be Sunday afternoon at 2:05. LHP Kyle Lobstein will start for the Biscuits and counter LHP Graham Taylor.
