Nommensen's Grand Slam Keys 4th-Straight Win
Biscuits race out to 7-0 lead, hold on for 9-6 win over Huntsville
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Brett Nommensen's grand slam keyed a six-run first inning for the Biscuits (30-22/66-54), and they matched a season-high four-game winning-streak by outlasting the Huntsville Stars (24-28/59-63) 9-6 Wednesday at Joe Davis Stadium.
Kyeong Kang and Mike Sheridan both drew two-out bases loaded walks against Arial Pena (0-2) to start the scoring in the first inning before Nommensen crushed the grand slam to right to make it 6-0. They'd add one in the second on a two-out single from Derek Dietrich to make it 7-0, chasing Pena from the game.
Kyle Lobstein (7-6) got the win despite allowing a pair of home runs in the early innings to move the Stars back into the game. Lobstein went five innings and allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks. C.J. Riefenhauser hurled three shutout relief innings.
After the Stars had cut it to 7-5, Mark Thomas drilled a home run to left to add insurance.
Omar Luna led the offense with a 3-4 night, while Dietrich enjoyed a two-hit night.
The Biscuits now sit a full three games on top of the South Division with 18 remaining.
Game three of the series will pit Matt Buschmann against Josh Stinson Thursday at 6:43.
