Barnese, Mahtook Help Biscuits Take 4 of 5

Barnese cruises through six solid frames, Mahtook hits 3rd HR of series in 5-2 win

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- After allowing two first-inning runs, Nick Barnese faced one-more than the minimum over his final five innings and the Biscuits (64-54/28-22) scored the game's final five runs to beat the Jackson Generals (68-51/26-23) 5-2 Sunday at Riveralk.

The win gives the Biscuits four-out-of-five against the league-leading Generals, and gives them sole-possession of first place in the South with 20 games remaining.

Mikie Mahtook's (above) two-run home run off Taijuan Walker (7-7) capped a three-run fifth to give the Biscuits their first lead of the night. Walker, the Mariners' top prospect, gave up a career-high 12 hits over 5.2 in the defeat.

Barnese (3-1) left after six full innings, holding the Generals to the two first inning runs on six hits and two walks. Neil Schenk and Kirby Yates (13) combined for three shutout innings to finish the night.

Shawn O'Malley and Kyeong Kang led a 13-hit attack for the Biscuits with three hits apiece.

The Biscuits have Monday off before beginning a ten-game roadtrip with a five-game series against the Huntsville Stars at 6:43 Tuesday night.
