Biscuits Celebrate 6th Walkoff Win of 2012
Nommensen's fielder's choice groundout scores Dietrich to beat Generals 4-3
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Brett Nommensen (above) grabbed his second walk-off-RBI of the series with a bases-loaded fielder's choice in the ninth to give the Biscuits (63-54/27-22) a 4-3 win over the Jackson Generals (68-50/26-22) Saturday night at Riverwalk.
Mikie Mahtook led off the ninth inning with a rocket-single into center-field off Jonathon Arias (1-4). Derek Dietrich drew a walk followed by a Mayo Acosta fielders choice that forced out Mahtook at third. Arias then walked Michael Sheridan to load the bases. Nommensen hit a chopper to second-baseman Stefen Romero who flipped to second, but the return throw to first was late, giving the Biscuits the win.
The Biscuits got a strong start from Matt Buschmann. The sinker-baller kept the Generals scoreless through six innings before a two-run double from Francisco Martinez gave Jackson their first two runs of the game. Buschmann finished with six strikeouts in 6.1 innings for the no-decision.
Montgomery jumped out to a 2-0 lead after a Mayo Acosta two-out, two-run double in the fourth inning. Shawn O'Malley scored from a Ty Morrision, RBI-fielder's choice in the fifth inning to bump the Biscuits in front 3-0.
The Generals came back to tie the game at three in the eighth inning, but failed to find the timely hit to grab a lead. Jackson is 2-for-33 with runners in scoring position for the series.
The series finale between the Biscuits and Generals will be Sunday at 6:05. RHP Nick Barnese will start for Montgomery. Jackson will have RHP Taijuan Walker on the mound.
