Streak Snapped With Walkoff Infield Single

Nommensen dives safely into first to allow Coon to score winning run over Jackson

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Brad Coon scored from second-base on a Brett Nommensen (above) infield single in the ninth inning to give the Biscuits (61-53/25-21) a 2-1 win against the Jackson Generals (67-48/25-20), snapping the Biscuits' five-game losing streak Wednesday night at Riverwalk.

With one out in the ninth inning, Mayo Acosta ripped a single to left-field. Coon then pinch-ran for Acosta and moved to second on a wild pitch from Mauricio Robles (1-2). Derek Dietrich then struck out for the second out of the inning. With Coon still on second and a full-count, Nommensen hit a chopper to first-base. Jackson's Rich Poythress gloved the bouncer but could not tag-out Nommensen who dove safely into first. Coon, who was moving on the pitch, came all the way around from second to score the winning run.

Merrill Kelly only allowed one run through 5.2 innings. The Generals grabbed their lone-run on two hits in the first inning. After the first, Kelly went on to shutout the Generals for the next 4.2 innings while only allowing 2 hits.

Mikie Mahtook hit his second double-A home run to tie the game at one in the fourth inning. Omar Luna and Nommensen both finished with two hits a piece.

Kirby Yates (2-2) picked up the win by pitching the final 1.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

The Biscuits and Generals will be in action again Thursday night at 7:05. LHP Kyle Lobstein will start for Montgomery. LHP James Gilheeny will start for Jackson.
