Biscuits Drop 4th-Straight to Suns

11-7 Jacksonville win ties Suns with Biscuits for first

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The Biscuits’ (60-52/24-20) offense came alive by ripping 14 hits and scoring seven runs but fell for the fourth-consecutive night in an 11-7 loss to the Jacksonville Suns (57-57/24-20), placing the Suns even with the Biscuits for first-place in the South Division Monday night at the Baseball Grounds.

After battling back-and-forth, the Suns exploded for a five-run fifth inning to take an 8-3 lead. Jacksonville’s Zach Cox hit a two-run triple down the left-field line in the sixth inning to push the Suns out infront 10-3.

The Biscuits and Suns traded runs in the seventh inning,when Montgomery came soaring back into the game. Sexton led off the eighth inning with a solo homerun. Derek Dietrich (above) followed with a two-run shot to make it 11-7 Jacksonville. After Mark Thomas doubled, Shawn O’Malley sent a deep drive to right field. The Suns right-fielder, Danny Pertusati, leaped above the wall to rob O’Malley of a home run. Lee would strike out to end the inning.

The Biscuits had only scored one run in the series before exploding for the seven runs Monday night. Omar Luna, Michael Sheridan, and Sexton all finished with two hits, while Thomas went 3-for-4.

Matt Buschmann (5-7) suffered the loss allowing eight runs on eight hits in five innings. Brian Flynn (2-0) gave up three runs on six hits through six innings for the win.

The Biscuits will try to end their four-game losing streak Tuesday night at 6:05 pm in the series finale. Montgomery will have RHP Nick Barnese on the mound. LHP Jose Alvarez will start for Jacksonville.
