Biscuits Blanked By Suns In Opener

2-run 4th all Jacksonville needs to hand Biscuits 3rd shutout defeat

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Biscuits (60-49/24-17) were shutout for the first time since May by the Jacksonville Suns (54-57/21-20) in a 2-0 series-opening loss Friday night at the Baseball Grounds.

Graham Taylor (7-8) had not pitched more than seven innings the entire season, but shutout the Biscuits through eight innings for his seventh win of the year. The left-hander allowed seven hits but Montgomery was only 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position off Taylor.

The Suns scored both of the game's runs in the fourth against Merrill Kelly (6-2), getting RBI singles from Shawn Bowman and Ben Lasater. Kelly went four innings then passed it off to Shane Dyer (above), who struck out four over three shutout innings of relief work.

The Biscuits brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning after an Omar Luna single off A.J. Ramos (16). The Suns' closer would then strike out back-to-back batters and inudce a weak groundball to end the game.

Luna went 2-for-3 for the Biscuits while Mikie Mahtook had two hits. Hak-Ju Lee singled up the middle in his final at-bat to extend his on-base streak to a franchise-record 46 games.

Game two in the series will be Saturday at 5:05 pm. The Biscuits will send LHP Kyle Lobstein to the mound while RHP Matt Neil will start for the Suns.
