Mahtook and Dietrich Homer Biscuits to Series Win
Dietrick clubs 2-run shot, Mahtook nails grand slam, both in 7-run 2nd
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Mikie Mahtook (above) and Derek Dietrich both clubbed their first double-A home runs during a seven-run second inning, and the Biscuits (60-48/24-16) rolled by the Mississippi Braves (47-62/17-22) 8-3 Thursday at Riverwalk.
Dietrich's two-run shot gave the Biscuits a 2-1 lead against Zeke Spruill (7-11). Mayo Acosta would double in a run two batters later, and after a Shawn O'Malley single and a Hak-Ju Lee walk, Mahtook found himself up with the bases loaded. He ripped a full-count pitch over the left-field wall for a grand slam to make it 7-1.
Nick Barnese (2-0) made his deepest outing of the season for the Biscuits, holding the Braves to two runs over six full innings to get the win. Spruill left the game after the Mahtook grand slam, going just 1.2 innings after back-to-back eight-inning outings.
Dietrich led the Biscuits with a 2-4 night, while Lee extended his on-base streak to 45 games.
The Biscuits begin a five-game set with the Jacksonville Suns at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville Friday at 6:05. RHP Merrill Kelly will go for the Biscuits against Suns LHP Graham Taylor.
