Biscuits Silence Braves to Even Series
Kang homers, Buschmann strong in 7-1 win
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Matt Buschman (5-6) tossed 6.1 strong innings backed by timely hitting to guide the Biscuits (59-48/23-16) past the Mississippi Braves (47-61/17-21) 7-1 Wednesday night at Riverwalk.
After the M-Braves scored a combined 24 runs on 30 hits in the previous two games, Buschmann held Mississippi to one run while scattering five hits in the win. The sinker-baller went through a stretch retiring 12 of 13 batters. The M-Braves did not score their first run until the seventh inning.
Kyeong Kang started the Biscuits' scoring with a two-run home run in the fifth inning to make it 2-0 Montgomery. After back-to-back errors from the M-Braves in the seventh inning, Hak-Ju Lee ripped a two-run triple off the wall in center to extend his on-base streak to a franchise-record 44 games. Mikie Mahtook and Michael Sheridan both added RBI-singles in a four-run seventh to give the Biscuits a 7-1 lead.
Shawn O'Malley, Kang and Mahtook all finished 2-for-4. Kang and Lee both drove in two runs a piece.
The rubber-match between the Biscuits and M-Braves will be Thursday at 7:05. Montgomery will send RHP Nick Barnese to the mound while RHP Zeke Spruill will start for Mississippi.
