HOOVER, Ala.- The Biscuits (52-43/16-11) banged out 15 hits to back a strong Kyle Lobstein (5-5) outing in a 6-2 win over the Birmingham Barons (43-53/13-14) in the series opener Thursday night at Regions Park.
After hitting .203 in the last six games, the Biscuits scored three runs on five hits in the first inning off Matthew Heidenreich (1-2). Back-to-back singles from Ty Morrison and Omar Luna led to a Ryan Garko RBI-single to start the scoring. Michael Sheridan added an RBI-double in a 2-for-4 night. Lobstein finished the night allowing one run on four hits over six innings. The lefty gave up the single run in the third inning, then worked out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth and pitched around lead off singles in the sixth without surrendering a run. The Barons tacked on a run in the following half-inning, while Montgomery answered with a run in the top of the ninth to put the score at 6-2 Montgomery. Yates pitched the final 1.1 scoreless innings to hold off the Barons and get the save.
Hak-Ju Lee lead the way with a 3-for-5 night extending his on-base streak to 32 games. Morrison, Garko, Sheridan and Sexton all finished with two hits each.
