Sexton Rolls Biscuits to 1-0 Win
2-out 8th-inning single the difference as Biscuits climb to within 1.5 games of first
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Kyle Lobstein's strong start and a two-out, two strike single from Greg Sexton (above) in the eighth inning led the Biscuits (32-29) to a 1-0 win over the Chattanooga Lookouts (29-32) Thursday night at Riverwalk.
Brad Coon pinch ran for Ryan Garko who led off the eighth inning with a single. A Tyler Bortnick sacrifice followed by a groundout would set the stage for Sexton's game-winning hit off of reliever Steven Ames. The Lookouts rallied in the ninth inning, but with runners on second and third, Kirby Yates (3) struck out Rafael Ynoa to end the game.
Lobstein tossed six scoreless innings while striking out five and scattering five hits. He became the first pitcher for the Biscuits to throw over 100 pitches. Frank De Los Santos (3-1) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings for the win as Kirby Yates (3) earned his third save of the season.
Chattanooga starter Aaron Miller went five innings, giving up six hits but no runs in a no-decision. Gaison Aguasviva (2-4) was charged with the only run of the game and the loss.
Game two between the Biscuits and Lookouts will be Friday night at 7:05. RHP Joe Cruz will get the nod for Montgomery while RHP Matt Magill will start for Chattanooga.
