Biscuits Walk Off Winners in the Tenth
Bases loaded walk to Michael Sheridan lifts Biscuits past Smokies 4-3
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- After coming back from a 3-0 deficit, Michael Sheridan drew a bases-loaded walk in the tenth inning to give the Biscuits (30-26) a 4-3 victory over the Tennessee Smokies (24-32) Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
The newest Biscuit, Brett Nommensen, hit a double down the left field line with one out in the tenth. After Nommensen moved to third on a wild pitch from Tennessee reliever Ty'Relle Harris (0-1), the Smokies intentionally walked Kyeong Kang and Tyler Bortnick to set the stage for the walk-off win. Sheridan now has two walk-off RBI on the season.
The Biscuits trailed 3-0 heading into the sixth innings. Ryan Garko got Montgomery on the board with a groundball that scored Ty Morrison. Kang followed with a two-run home run to tie the game at three. It was Kang's first home run in 26 days and 96 plate appearances.
Biscuits' starter Kyle Lobstein lasted 4.1 innings while giving up three runs on seven hits in the no-decision. He countered Dae-Eun Rhee who kept the Biscuits scoreless through five innings before surrendering the three runs in the sixth.
Frank De Los Santos, Adam Liberatore and Neil Schenk (2-0) combined for 5.2 scoreless innings in relief. Schenk was awarded the win while Harris got the loss for the Smokies.
Game two in the series will be Sunday evening at 6:05. RHP Joe Cruz will start for the Biscuits while the Smokies have RHP Nick Struck getting the start.
