Biscuits' Offense Stalls in Shutout
Montgomery shutout for the second time of the year in a 6-0 loss to the M-Braves
PEARL, Miss.- The Biscuits (26-25) could only gather three hits while being shutout for the second time this season 6-0 by the Mississippi Braves (23-27) in the series opener Monday night at Trustmark Park.
Zeke Spruill (5-4) tossed six innings of scoreless baseball while only surrendering three hits and striking out four in the victory. The M-Braves' bullpen would combine for three innings of shutout, no-hit baseball to finish the game.
Joe Cruz (2-6) worked out of several jams but suffered the loss. Cruz (above) only gave up two runs in five innings while grabbing four strikeouts and allowing four hits. The M-Braves got both runs off Cruz in the second inning. Mississippi added one run in the seventh and three in the eighth off of Alex Koronis and Scott Shuman respectively.
The Biscuits offense could not back up Cruz going 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and leaving nine runners on base. Mississippi has kept Montgomery scoreless on two occasions, the only two times the Biscuits have been shutout this season.
Game two in the series between the Biscuits and M-Braves will be Tuesday night at 7:05. RHP Matt Buschmann will start for Montgomery while Mississippi will send out RHP Gary Moran.
