Thompson Gets First Win as Biscuits Cruise

Biscuits beat Barons 7-3 to take series advantage

HOOVER, Ala.- The Biscuits (21-22) used a pair of three-run innings and Jake Thompson's (1-4) best start of the year to win 7-3 against the Birmingham Barons (22-21) Friday night at Regions Park.

Thompson had a bumpy start to his outing allowing three runs in the first two innings. After the second, Thompson retired 12 of the 14 batters he faced and did not allow a hit. The 22-year-old right-hander allowed three runs in six innings while striking out six and only walking two to earn his first double-A win of his career.

The Biscuits used a two-run triple from Omar Luna in the second inning to take a 2-1 lead, their first advantage of the night. Emeel Salem would add an RBI-double to push the score to 3-1. Michael Sheridan, Salem and Hak-Ju Lee each had an RBI in the 6th inning to open up a 6-3 lead.

Adam Liberatore (5) got out of a bases loaded jam in the final inning to earn his fifth save of the year. Seth Loman came to the plate representing the potential tying run, but Liberatore sent him down swinging to end the game.

Nestor Molina (3-3) suffered the loss for the Barons. The righty out of Venezuela gave up six runs on ten hits in six innings pitched.

The Biscuits look to win their fourth series in a row Saturday night at 6:30. RHP Merrill Kelly will start for Montgomery. Birmingham will send LHP Pedro Hernandez to the mound.
