Smokies Cruise by Biscuits to Even Series
Tennessee scores 9 runs over first five innings in 9-4 win

KODAK, Tenn.- The Tennessee Smokies (12-15) scored in each of the first five innings and totaled 13 hits to beat the Biscuits (11-16) 9-5 Wednesday afternoon at Smokies Park.

After the Biscuits got on the board first with a run on the top of the first, the Smokies began their offensive explosion with three in the bottom of the first to go up 3-1 against Jake Thompson (0-2). Thompson would leave in the fourth having allowed eight runs.

Montgomery made it interesting in the 6th inning with two runs to cut the score to 9-4. Kyeong Kang and Michael Sheridan led off the frame with back-to-back singles. Kang scored when David Wendt was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Sheridan was then driven in by Hak-Ju Lee. Omar Luna came to the plate with the bases loaded, two outs and a chance to bring the Biscuits within striking distance. Smokies reliever Casey Weathers induced a ground out to retire the side with the bases full.

Tennessee starter Nick Struck (3-2) earned the win, allowing four runs on five hits over 5.1.

Kang (above) finished the game 2-4 with 2 runs scored and his second home run in as many days. Brad Coon extended his hitting streak to six games with a 1-3 day.

The Biscuits will be in action against the Smokies again Thursday night at 7:15 pm. RHP Shane Dyer (2-2, 3.43) will start for Montgomery. RHP Trey McNutt (0-1, 0.61) will be on the hill for Tennessee.
