Four-Run Inning Pushes Biscuits by BayBears
Biscuits take series from defending champs with 6-2 win in finale
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- For the second night in-a-row the Biscuits (7-8) used a 4-run inning to blow past the Mobile BayBears (9-6), scoring a series-win with a 6-2 victory Thursday night at Riverwalk.
The Biscuits enjoyed their four-run output in the eighth inning. Former Biscuit Matt Gorgen (1-1) walked the first two batters he faced to set the inning up. With runners at second and third and one out, Mike Sheridan blooped a base hit to left over a drawn-in infield to score Henry Wrigley and put the Biscuits up 3-2. Mark Thomas brought home Greg Sexton with a safety squeeze to add insurance before a Brad Coon single through the middle brought the game to its final score.
The BayBears jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on Biscuits starter Jake Thompson, getting single runs in the first and the second. But the Biscuits tied the game with single runs in the second and the fourth, both off of Omar Luna base hits.
Thompson settled for a no-decision, allowing two runs on five hits over five innings. Frank De Los Santos (1-1) scored the win in relief for the Biscuits, recording the final four outs of the game.
Sheridan, Coon, and Luna all had two hits to lead the Biscuits.
The Biscuits now ride their first two-game win streak of the season into a five-game set with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos beginning Friday at 7:05. RHP Jim Paduch will oppose RHP Pedro Villarreal.
