Biscuits Earn Doubleheader Split
Biscuits drop first game 3-1, ride Cruz to 6-2 victory in game two against Mobile

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Biscuits (6-8) used a four-run second inning to cruise past the Mobile BayBears 6-2 in game two of a double header after dropping the first half of the twin bill 3-1 Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Henry Wrigley led off the second inning of the second game with his league-leading fifth home run of the year to give the Biscuits a 1-0 lead. Omar Luna added another run with an RBI-single to left in his first at-bat since Sunday night. The big blow in the inning was delivered by David Wendt. The backup catcher sent a fastball from BayBears starter Derek Eitel (0-1) off the warning track in center field for a 2-run triple to give the Biscuits a 4-0 lead after two innings.

Joe Cruz (1-2) picked up his first win of the year in game two of the doubleheader. The 23-year old right-hander did not give up a hit through three innings, and would finish the game having allowed two solo homers but no other hits while fanning 4 over 5.2 IP.

David Wendt finished game two 2-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Adam Liberatore tossed 1.1 scoreless innings.

In game one, the Baybears (9-5) used a one-run second inning and a two-run sixth inning to defeat the Biscuits 3-1. Kyle Lobstein (1-1) suffered the loss after tossing 5.1 innings and surrendering only 2 runs on 2 hits with 7 strikeouts and 5 walks.

The Biscuits scored their lone run of game one with an RBI-double from Henry Wrigley in the fourth inning.

Cole Figueroa’s hitting streak ended at 12 games after going hitless in game one of the double header, but he extended his on-base streak to 14 games.

The BayBears and Biscuits will complete their 5-game series Thursday night. Montgomery will send RHP Jake Thompson (0-0, 4.00) to the mound while LHP Patrick Corbin (1-0, 2.08) will start for Mobile. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm.
